Our department is oriented to modern empirically-based clinical psychology. There is close integration between the department`s activities in teaching, research and clinicalwork. This is perhaps most evident in our curriculum with an increasedresearch component, as well as extended training activities. We place specialemphasis on interdisciplinary teamwork, especially in the field of developmentalpsychopathology. Therefore we have intensive collaborations with childand adolescent psychiatrists and psychotherapists, pediatricians and teachers. Our main focus is on clinical psychology and psychotherapy of children, adolescents and young adults. The primary goals of our research on infancy, childhood, adolescence and early adulthood are (1) to identify the processesleading to competent or problematic behavior and (2) to develop and evaluateinterventions that prevent or ameliorate psychological problems. In ourstudies on developmental psychopathology we adopt multi-level approachesto explain the aetiology and the course of mental disorders, as well asspecific developmental disorders. With respect to clinical interventionwe prefer cognitive-behavioral approaches. In our teaching we are not limitedto this theoretical system. There are also courses on psychodynamic andphenomenological models.
