Cognitive Psychology

Leader: Prof. Reinhold Kliegl
Office: Nicole StietzelPetra Köhler

Cognitive psychology is concerned with mental functions shared between humans in general. The main domains are: perception, attention, categorization and concept formation, memory and representation of knowledge, language comprehension and production, thinking and reasoning, skill acquisition and expertise.

Some of the main questions of cognitive psychology are: What can we say about human behavior and experience at a very basic and general level? Which laws govern human behavior and experience? In the local research, we focus on how the dynamics of language-related, perceptual, and oculomotor processes subserve attentional control, using reading, spatial attention, and working memory tasks as experimental venues. These dynamics are formalized as mathematical or computational models. We also examine neural correlates and age-related differences in these processes.
